KISS electrifies Mohegan Sun in the hottest show of the summer

Kiss's Tommy Thayer has some big shoes to fill, replacing Ace Frehley, but wows the crowd with his solos.

The Kiss army assembled at Mohegan sun once more on August 18. The horde of colorful fans filled the arena with many decked out in costume or face paint to pledge their allegiance to the glam rock icons.

Kiss themselves were in full costume as expected, and a full pyrotechnic show was in tow. The band opened their set with “Modern Day Delilah,” the lead single from their 2009 effort, Sonic Boom, after being lowered to the stage from a moving platform. The rest of the set would include more Sonic Boom material and elaborate displays of platforms.

Surprisingly, the Sonic Boom material sounds just as good as any of Kiss’s efforts from the seventies. Paul Stanley, however, struggled at times. Even on tracks written recently, Stanley’s voice showed to be not up to the task of successfully hitting all of the high notes. Fortunately, the rest of the band’s stellar members (Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer, and Eric Singer) could make up for Stanley’s mishaps, and Stanley’s stage presence made his vocal errors go largely unnoticed.

David Gilmour and Roger Waters reunite for second time in 30 years for charity gig

Yes, it was a charity gig, and this may be a bit harsh, but I can't see letting wit go to waste.

Prog-rock icons David Gilmour & Roger Waters performed a four song acoustic gig at a benefit for the Hoping Foundation. On top of that, Waters has hinted that Gilmour will perform on an unannounced, surprise date on Waters’ “The Wall” tour.

I’m not someone you would call the biggest Pink Floyd fan in the world, nor, would I consider myself a fan at all. However, it doesn’t take a fan to acknowledge the fact that this is huge news in the music world. Or so it should have been. Continue reading

Megadeth to release 20th anniversary “Rust In Peace Live” CD & DVD (9/7)

Megadeth's 20th anniversary celebration of Rust in Peace, "Rust in Peace: Live" comes to retail stores in September.

After 25 years as a band and 20 official members, Megadeth is still going strong as one of metal’s dominating names. September 2010 will be no different, as the band releases the 20th anniversary version of “Rust in Peace” on CD and DVD. This is no ordinary anniversary re-release, however. Rather than rehashing the original album with bonus tracks like many other bands do these days, Megadeth toured to celebrate the album’s anniversary, performing it in its entirety at each show. The March 31 show at the Hollywood Palladium was selected as the set to be recorded for retail release.

The CD:

  1. Holy Wars…The Punishment Due
  2. Hangar 18
  3. Take No Prisoners
  4. Five Magics
  5. Poison Was the Cure
  6. Lucretia
  7. Tornado of Souls
  8. Dawn Patrol
  9. Rust in Peace…Polaris
  10. Holy Wars…Reprise
    Bonus Performances:
